ABSTRACT:
An automatic gain control circuit is disclosed which enables the control of feedback gain to stabilize the circuit and increase its speed of operation. The AGC circuit includes an operational amplifier having a varactor diode coupled between one input and an output. The circuit is used to provide a feedback control signal in response to an output signal such that the varactor diode reduces loop gain when the output signal would otherwise cause an increase in gain and drive the feedback loop to instability, and increases loop gain when the output signal would otherwise cause a decrease in loop gain and lower response time.
