ABSTRACT:
La.sub.2 (HPO.sub.4).sub.3, Sr(HSO.sub.4).sub.2 and Ba(HSO.sub.4).sub.2 are used, in either the gas or liquid phase, to catalyze the alkylation of phenols by alcohol to selectively form alkyl aryl ethers.
