ABSTRACT:
A catalyst and a process for producing dimethyl ether from syngas which catalyst comprises copper and zinc supported on a gamma alumina with a surface area of about 150-500 m.sup.2 /g and which has been calcined at a temperature of about 400.degree.-900.degree. C. and reduced at a temperature of about 100.degree.-275.degree. C. and wherein said catalyst has a sodium content of less than about 700 ppm.
