ABSTRACT:
Novel squarylium compounds, a process for the production thereof as well as to a photoreceptor for electrophotography containing the squarylium compound are disclosed, said squarylium compounds being represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R is a straight-chain alkyl group having 2 or more carbon atoms or --C.sub.2 H.sub.4 X, wherein X is a hydroxyl group, a halogen atom or the group --OR.sub.1 wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group.
