ABSTRACT:
A method of fabricating articles from precipitation hardening aluminum alloys wherein the alloy is thermomechanically treated to control the characteristics of its microstructure before forging occurs in hot dies in an isothermal condition so that deformation occurs at a minimum strain rate. The forging temperature is above the solutionizing temperature of the alloy being forged.
