An organic electroluminescent device which includes an anode and a cathode, and an organic electroluminescent element disposed between the anode and cathode. The organic electroluminescent element has at least one hole transporting layer. The hole transport layer includes a polyaromatic amine of the formula: ##STR1## where n is equal to 3, 4, 5, or 6;
