ABSTRACT:
Synthesis gas is produced by reacting a hydrocarbon feedstock with oxygen to give a hot gas containing H.sub.2 and CO, injecting into the resulting hot gas a hydrocarbon and possibly steam and/or CO.sub.2 and reacting the resulting mixture adiabatically over a steam reforming catalyst. These steps are carried out preferably in a reactor of substantially uniform cross section such as a gas turbine combustor.
