ABSTRACT:
Unsaturated alcohols are prepared by reacting an .alpha.-olefin such as isobutene with an aldehyde such as formaldehyde in the presence of a phosphate preferably in an organic solvent. Unsaturated alcohols such as 3-methyl-3-butene-1-ol and 3-methyl-2-butene-1-ol are important intermediates for producing organic compounds such as isoprene.
