ABSTRACT:
A thermally stable flame-resistant phosphonate polymer of the structure ##STR1## WHEREIN R.sup.1 is methyl or ethyl, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or methyl and n is 3 to 100, is formed by the reaction of acrylic or methacrylic acid with an alkyl bicyclic phosphite of the structure ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 is as above. The phosphonate polymer is useful in forming flame-resistant acrylic compositions such as molding powders and sheets from mixtures comprising the polymer and methyl methacrylate.
