ABSTRACT:
A filter-press electrolytic cell comprising a plurality of metallic anode plates, metallic cathode plates, frame-like gaskets of an electrically insulating material, and hydraulically impermeable cation-exchange membranes, the anode plates, cathode plates and gaskets having four openings therein which in the cell form four compartments lengthwise of the cell from which liquors may be charged to the products of electrolysis may be removed from the anode and cathode compartments of the cell, at least some of the openings in the anode and cathode plates having electrically insulating frame-like members therein, which may be integral with the gaskets.
