ABSTRACT:
A method for preparing cis, cis, cis-1,2,4-cyclohexanetricarboxylic acid comprising contacting trimellitic acid with molecular hydrogen at an elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a solvent and a catalyst comprising a transition metal deposited on a carbon support having a surface area of at least about 940 m.sup.2 /gram, and the anhydride formed by dehydrating cis, cis, cis-1,2,4-cyclohexanetricarboxylic acid.
