ABSTRACT:
A solid pharmaceutical composition comprising one or more .beta.-lactam antibiotics in acid or amphoteric form in association with at least one physiologically acceptable base in the presence of a gaseous atmosphere containing a stabilizing amount of carbon dioxide at a concentration greater than that of atmospheric air. The compositions exhibit enhanced stability. A preferred antibiotic for the compositions is ceftazidime or a hydrate thereof, and a preferred base is sodium cabonate or a mixture thereof with one or more other bases.
