ABSTRACT:
A serial storage subsystem for a data processor is provided. The system includes a first processor and a first data storage device including a plurality of data storage locations for storing data. A second data storage device includes a plurality of data storage locations for storing data. A control device is provided and is associated with the first processor for selecting one of the plurality of data storage locations of the first data storage device as an access window for accessing the second data storage device, such that the first processor gains access to at least one of the plurality of data storage locations of the second data storage device by addressing a selected one of the plurality of data storage locations of the first data storage device. The system further includes a second processor responsive to the first processor for transferring data between the selected one of the plurality of data storage locations of the first data storage device and at least one of the plurality of data storage locations of the second data storage device.
