ABSTRACT:
A method of increasing the rate of repletion of purine nucleotide pools in tissue deficient in the nucleotides, which comprises administering to a human or animal a therapeutically effective amount of 5-amino-4-imidazolecarboxamide riboside, 5-amino-4-imidazolecarboxamide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof sufficient to increase the rate of the repletion is disclosed along with pharmaceutical compositions useful for carrying out the method of the invention.
