ABSTRACT:
A process for producing a tricyclodecanecarboxylic acid ester by reacting dihydrodicyclopentadiene with CO and an alcohol in the presence of anhydrous HF is disclosed. The reaction is performed in a solvent at a temperature of from -20.degree. to 60.degree. C. under a CO partial pressure of from 5 to 50 atm. The alcohol is used in an amount of 0.7 to 5 moles per mole of the dihydrodicyclopentadiene. The anhydrous HF is used in an amount of at least 5 moles per mole of the dihydrodicyclopentadiene. The product tricyclodecanecarboxylic acid ester is useful as a flavor.
