ABSTRACT:
The invention concerns a zoom optical system in which, for zooming, an optical function surface is rotated about a point away from it to change the position of a light beam that passes through the optical function surface. The zoom optical system comprises a stop2and one or more optical elements10located on an object side with respect to the stop2, each having at least one optical function surface11, 12, 13, and is adapted to form an image of a distant object O at varying magnifications. At least one optical function surface12comprises a continuous surface, and is constructed such that there is a continuous change in at least the radius of curvature in a sectional direction from one end to another end. Upon zooming, at least one optical element10having optical function surfaces11, 12, 13is rotated about a point S that is not contiguous to one optical function surface.
