ABSTRACT:
The invention relates to a high-performance, high-zoom, low-cost zoom lens system which is easy to fabricate due to a reduced number of lenses. The zoom lens system comprises a first lens group G1 having positive refracting power and a second lens group G2 having negative refracting power. For zooming, the spacing between the first and second lens groups varies. At least one diffractive surface r.sub.11 is used in the zoom lens optical system. Each lens group comprises at least two lenses. The zoom lens system satisfies condition (2) or 50<.nu..sub.d2 <85 where .nu..sub.d2 is an Abbe's number of the lens having the largest negative refracting power in the second lens group G2.
