Xanthogen disulphides of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.1 independently represent hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl or an oxygen-containing heterocyclic ring system having from 5 to 8 ring members and optionally mono- or tri-substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, and wherein
