ABSTRACT:
In a workpiece grinding method, a grinding allowance of a predetermined width (T) at at least an end surface portion21of a workpiece W is removed with a grinding wheel10(or32) by rotating the workpiece W having a cylindrical portion20and the end surface portion21perpendicular thereto, by rotating the grinding wheel10(or32) supported rotatably about an axis extending in parallel with the axis of the workpiece10(or32), and by moving the grinding wheel10(or32) relatively to the workpiece W. The method comprises a first grinding step of grinding the end surface portion21to an approximately right triangle shape in section by infeeding the grinding wheel10(or32) from a grinding start position (S), where the grinding wheel10(or32) overlaps the circumferential surface of the end surface portion21through the predetermined width (T) or a narrower width, toward an infeed end position (E) on the side of the cylindrical portion20in an oblique XZ-direction; and a second grinding step of removing a grinding allowance of the approximate right triangle shape in section left without being ground at the first grinding step, by feeding the grinding wheel10(or32) in an approximately axial direction of the workpiece W.
