ABSTRACT:
A method of cutting a workpiece in a desired configuration by using an electric discharge andrelatively moving the workpiece and a wire electrode. When cutting a waste work part of the configuration, the wire electrode is stopped and shifted backwardly for a predetermined distance. The wire electrode is then shifted perpendicular to the work direction until it contacts the wall of the workpiece so as to measure the discharge gap.
