ABSTRACT:
The disclosure described herein is a Wheel-wear Monitor that identifies wheels on railroad cars which have so worn that wheel flanges, with additional wear, will contact the rail frogs. The device consists of a set of contacts which are actuated by the flange of a worn wheel, an air-pellet gun triggered by said flange, pellets containing paint, a pellet gun control unit, automated reloading accessories, and a load cell sensor.
