ABSTRACT:
A water-cooled internal combustion engine E is provided with a cylinder block water jacket Jb, a cylinder head water jacket Jh, and an exhaust manifold passage38in which exhaust gas discharged from combustion chambers26through exhaust ports28collects. The exhaust manifold passage38is formed only in a cylinder head21. The exhaust gas that has collected in the exhaust manifold passage38is discharged through an exhaust outlet of the exhaust manifold passage38from a cylinder head21into an exhaust passage39formed in a cylinder block C. The exhaust manifold passage38is surrounded by the cylinder head water jacket Jh, the cylinder block water jacket Jband a discharge water jacket80for carrying cooling water from the cylinder head water jacket Jhand the cylinder block water jacket Jbto the outside of the engine body. The engine E provided with the exhaust manifold passage38does not require any assembling work for sealing the exhaust manifold passage38and hence the cost of the combustion engine E can be reduced. A wall defining the exhaust manifold passage38can be efficiently cooled by the cooling water that flows through the water jackets.
