ABSTRACT:
Water-based lubricant useful for metal cutting, grinding and forming and suitable as hydraulic fluids are described as consisting essentially of 0.5 to 4 percent by weight, balance, water; of a synergistic blend of a C.sub.6 to C.sub.18 alkylphosphonate or an amine adduct thereof and an ethoxylate of an acid or an alcohol containing from 3 to 20 ethoxy groups wherein the acid or alcohol is derived from fatty or synthetic sources.
