ABSTRACT:
A waste tab stripping apparatus used to form corrugated boxes from fiberboard blanks includes a mounting bracket adapted to retrofit the apparatus to a standard box-forming machine. A pair of counterrotating brushes are attached to the mounting bracket and are positioned so as to brush across the path of the blank. The brushes are longitudinally oriented so that their central axis extends at an angle substantially within the range of 5.degree. to 17.degree. relative to the direction of the path of the blank. One brush is positioned above the plane of blank and another brush is positioned below the plane of the blank. As the blank engages the stripping apparatus, the counterrotating brushes operate with a pinching force at the nip sufficient to strip the waste tab away toward the side edge of the blank. Pneumatically-powered motors are used to drive the brushes.
