ABSTRACT:
A solid state electrolyte for solid state cell systems comprising a vitreous lithium cation conductor of the composition SiS.sub.2, xLi.sub.2 S, yLiI where x is from 0.8 to 1.5, where y is from 0 to about 2 and wherein said composition has a conductivity of at least 0.75.times.10.sup.-4 ohm.sup.-1 cm.sup.-1 at 25.degree. C.
