ABSTRACT:
A vertical navigation steering control for aircraft for providing vertical steering of an aircraft along flight paths defined by waypoints which recognizes the problems introduced by lateral steering and accounts for shortening of horizontal distance between waypoints due to lateral path changes. Further features include means for capturing a NAV path, following a path between waypoints, transitioning from one path to another at a waypoint, and means for protection against excessive climb rates.
