ABSTRACT:

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to photography and electronic-film cameras and more particularly relates to a focus verifying camera and focus verifying photography method.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Verifying cameras are a type of hybrid film-electronic camera in which the user has an opportunity to check captured film images immediately after capture using a concurrently recorded electronic image. This allows the user to attempt to replicate images that are defective. One possible defect is in focusing. Some cameras, when the shutter release is partially depressed, have displayed in the viewfinder an icon or other feature representing the focusing zone at which the camera is focused. This display is presented prior to image capture and, while useful, is still subject to the time constraints of image capture.
It would thus be desirable to provide an improved verifying camera and method in which inaccurate focusing can be more accurately verified.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The invention is defined by the claims. The invention, in its broader aspects, provides a method and camera which verify the focus of photographic images. In the method, a taking lens unit is autofocused to a focused distance for a subject image. A latent image of said subject image is captured on photographic film using the lens system at the focused distance. During the capturing of the latent image, an electronic image of the subject image is acquired. The electronic image and an indicator of the focused distance are displayed after the latent image is captured.
It is an advantageous effect of the invention that an improved verifying camera and method are provided in which inaccurate focusing can be more accurately verified.
