ABSTRACT:
An improved riser reactor containing a plurality of substantially vertically oriented venturis connected in series whereby the venturis have a maximum diameter, D.sub.1, and a minimum diameter, D.sub.2 ; and, apparatus for connecting the venturis end to end in which the cross-sectional area of the venturis at D.sub.1 is A.sub.1 and the cross sectional area at D.sub.2 is A.sub.2 and the ratio of A.sub.1 /A.sub.2 is between about 1.1 and about 113, preferably between about 2 and about 100, most preferably between about 5 and about 50. The present invention also includes a process for catalytic cracking of a liquid hydrocarbon feed by use of the riser reactor of this invention.
