ABSTRACT:
A vehicle occupant protection apparatus (10) includes a retainer structure (60), a reaction structure (26), and an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device (14) having a portion (100) clamped between the retainer structure (60) and the reaction structure (26). The apparatus (10) further includes a deflectable structure (80). The deflectable structure (80) deflects under the influence of an inflation fluid pressure force to enable limited movement of the clamped portion (100) of the protection device (14) between the retainer structure (60) and the reaction structure (26) under the influence of the pressure force.
