ABSTRACT:
A preferred varistor body2has a structure of alternately laminated internal electrode layer12and varistor layer14. The varistor layer14has a composition containing ZnO as the main component, and Co, Pr, and Zr as the auxiliary components. An analysis of the varistor body2in the depth direction from the surface thereof satisfies the formula (1) and (2):in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?0.4×Z1/Z0+0.5≦P1/P0≦0.4×Z1/Z0+0.9  (1)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?1<Z1/Z0<2.2  (2)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?where, Z0is the Zr content at a reference depth where the Zr content becomes almost constant, Z1is the Zr content at a level of 2 μm at the surface side above the reference depth, P0is the Pr content at the reference depth, and P1is the Pr content at a level of2μm at the surface side above the reference depth.
