ABSTRACT:
Disclosed is a variable valve mechanism10for changing the lift amount and operating angle of an internal combustion engine valve disc12. The variable valve mechanism comprises a first cam54, which rotates in accordance with crankshaft rotation; a transmission member24, 38that includes a second cam32, 34, which oscillates in synchronism with the rotation of the first cam54and transmits the force exerted by the first cam54to the valve disc12; a control shaft40, which is adjusted for a predetermined rotation position; an adjustment mechanism36, 38for varying the lift amount and operating angle of the valve disc12by changing the oscillation range of the transmission member24, 38in accordance with the rotation position of the control shaft40; a lost motion spring60for pressing the transmission member24, 38toward the first cam54to ensure that the transmission member24, 38remains coupled to the first cam54; and an assist spring64for pressing the transmission member24, 38in resistance to the force exerted by the lost motion spring60.
