ABSTRACT:
Vapor-phase condensation polymerization of aromatic polyamides is carried out by vaporizing polyamide-forming monomers, diluting with an inert gas, and reacting the monomers in a reaction zone heated in the range of about 150.degree. C. to about 500.degree. C. from about 0.01 second to about 5 seconds or longer. The polyamide is preferably deposited on a removable inorganic or organic substrate maintained within the zone.
