ABSTRACT:
A vapor phase process is provided for high yield conversion of C.sub.4 -hydrocarbons to maleic acid (anhydride) and acetic acid in the presence of a catalyst comprising a reduced calcined coprecipitate of a molybdenum compound and a phosphorus compound, and optionally the catalyst includes one or more compounds of metal elements selected from titanium, vanadium, niobium and bismuth.
