ABSTRACT:
A fluid flow machine comprises an array of vanes (2) which are supported at their ends by inner and outer support structures4, 6. The ends of the vanes are received in slots8, 10, with resilient material12disposed between the vane2and the wall of the slot8, 10. A restraint element14, 34is mounted in a recess26, 28; 48of the support structure4, 6and is engaged by a notch30, 32in the vane2to restrict axial displacement of the vane2. Consequently, vibration of the vane in directions perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of the vane are damped by the elastomeric material12but bodily axial displacement of the vane2is prevented by the restraint elements14, 34.
