ABSTRACT:
A process and apparatus for cutting and gouging a workpiece wherein solely a vacuum is used as the operative molten metal removal force. Isolating the atmosphere surrounding the arc as it melts the workpiece while evacuating the atmosphere as the melting proceeds thus facilitating a better cut or gouge with lower process generated noise and removal of process generated fume.
