ABSTRACT:
A compact V-type internal combustion engine which has two banks arranged in a V-shaped form having its bore pitch-to-bore diameter ratio no more than 1.25. The V-type engine includes auxiliary combustion chambers, an injection pump located inside the V-shape, injection nozzles each projecting into the bank from the inside of the V-shape, intake manifolds each connected to the bank from the inside thereof, exhaust manifolds each connected to the bank from the outside thereof, injection pipes each connected between the injection pump and the injection nozzle. The auxiliary combustion chamber is disposed above the cylinder and on a transverse line extending through the center of the cylinder. The injection nozzle is disposed on a plane made by the transverse line and an axis of the cylinder and inclinded at an angle with the cylinder axis. A common cam shaft is provided for operating valve--mechanisms for the respective banks on which cams for one bank and cams for the other bank are alternatively arranged in order to enlarge the space between the push rods.
