UV absorbing compounds, susceptible to free-radical polymerization, of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is alkyl having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms of which not more than 6 are present in a linear chain, and in particular
2-(2'-hydroxy-3'-methacrylamidomethyl-5'-tert-octylphenyl)benzotriazole, and polymers thereof.
