ABSTRACT:
Disclosed are genes found inStreptococcus pneumoniaethat are essential for survival for a wide range of bacteria. These genes are termed “S-ylqF,” “S-yqeG,” “S-yybQ,” “S-yerL,” and “S-ysxC.” These genes and the polypeptides that they encode, as well as homologs and orthologs thereof can be used to identify antibacterial agents for treating a broad spectrum of bacterial infections.
