ABSTRACT:
Compositions of substantially homogeneous type II-like collagen from invertebrates belonging to the class Scyphozoa, phylum Coelenterata, i.e., jellyfish, particularlyStomolophus meleagris, and methods for its extraction are provided. Methods for the treatment of arthritis, in particular rheumatoid arthritis, by administering an effective amount of the collagen-containing compositions of the invention so as to induce immune tolerance, are also provided.
