ABSTRACT:
The present invention relates to the use of dyestuffs of the general formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 and M.sup..sym. are as defined in claim 1, as infrared-absorbing agents in hydrophilic colloidal layers, for example in recording materials or for detection purposes, recording materials, for example photographic recording materials, which comprise such dyestuffs in hydrophilic colloidal layers, and new dyestuffs of the general formula I.
