ABSTRACT:
A mold collar and method for remotely sealing a joint between pipeline segments located at a depth greater than arm's length below the ground surface. The mold collar comprises a flexible sheath contoured generally in the shape of the joint to envelop the outer surface of the joint upon installation. The sheath includes a installation clips which hold the sheath in position on the joint while closure flaps and sealing bands are remotely fastened on the collar using grappling tools operated by workmen at the ground surface. The method comprises remotely positioning, installing, and sealing the collar about the joint, and then infusing the joint with sealant to form a leak-proof seal about the joint.
