ABSTRACT:
Monolayer or multilayer systems containing a 1,5-diarylpenta-1,4-dien-3-one-palladium(O) complex of formula I ##STR1## wherein both the groups R.sup.1 independently of the other are hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or both the groups R.sup.1 together are a polymethylene chain containing 2-4 C atoms, R.sup.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl, --N(R.sup.4).sub.2, --NO.sub.2 or --CN, R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl, R.sup.4 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl, k=1-3.5, m=1-3 and p=1-3, are excellently suitable for electroless metallization, as sensors for H.sub.2 detection or as catalytically active surfaces for hydrogenation processes.
