ABSTRACT:
The present invention is directed to an ultrasonic film splicer for ultrasonically bonding all conventional plastic film bases.
The present splicer basically comprises film holding means for retaining the edges of two film strips to be spliced; film cutting means whereby the edges of the two film strips are severed in a mating relationship; film transport means for moving the film within an ultrasonic compression zone whereby the severed ends of the film are positioned in a fixed overlapped relationship ready for bonding; and ultrasonic bonding means comprising rotatably mounted anvil means and stationary narrow elongated transducer means which define the ultrasonic compression zone wherein the film strips to be spliced are positioned and oscillatory energy applied thereto by line contact by virtue of said bonding means.
