ABSTRACT:
A plurality of square-shaped playing pieces (B), which may comprise two-dimensional cards or a face or surface of three-dimensional cubes, are disposed within a square-shaped array (C) so as to define a playing game or puzzle (A). Each playing piece (B) has indicia upon each surface thereof at each corner location, a central peripheral edge location, and a geometric central location such that when the playing pieces (B) are arranged in the array (C) of the first embodiment of the present invention, target lines (D,E) are defined between mating edges of the playing pieces (B), target number (F) are defined at the central portion of the array (C), outside target line numbers (G) are defined along the target lines (D,E) at the central peripheral edge portions of the array (C), inside target line numbers (H) are defined along the target lines (D,E) between the target numbers (F) and the outside target line numbers (G), ring numbers (I) are defined within the corners of the array (C), and the center face numbers (M) are defined at the central portion of each game piece (B). Predetermined relationships between the indicia of the various groups of target numbers (F), inside target line numbers (H), outside target line numbers (G), ring numbers (I), and center face numbers (M) are establised so as to determine winning game combinations or puzzle solutions. In accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention, the game pieces may be arranged in an in-line array whereby indicia disposed in groups along mating or meeting lines (L', L", L"') are correlated to the center face numbers in order to determine winning game combinations or puzzle solutions. In accordance with a third embodiment of the present invention, grid type playing pieces (100, 200) define indicia which must satisfy predetermined relationships along mating edges (300,400) in order to determine winning combinations or puzzle solutions.
