ABSTRACT:
A tunable spatial light modulator for use with a variable wavelength transmitter having a support surface and a plurality of pixels defining an array thereof upon the support surface. Each pixel has a first conductive element formed to the support surface and a second conductive element spaced away from the first conductive element and movable between first and second portions thereof with respect to the first conductive element, the second conductive element configured to reflect light therefrom. The tunable spatial light modulator also has a biasing circuit for applying an electrical bias voltage to the first and second conductive elements, the application of the bias voltage to the first and second conductive elements causing the second conductive element to move with respect t the first conductive element so as to vary a distance between the first and second positions of the second conductive element; and an addressing circuit for selectively addressing individual pixels and for applying a set voltage thereto in addition to the bias voltage so as to cause the second conductive element to move to a desired one of the first and second portions thereof.
