A tunable dispersion compensator and a tunable dispersion compensation method having a simple structure which can be easily controlled are provided. A tunable dispersion compensator201is constructed of first to nth ring resonators2021, to202nhaving the same delay time spectrum arranged in series. These resonators are provided with first to nth ring-shaped waveguides2041to204nfor a common linear waveguide203through directional couplers2061to206n. Heaters2051to205nare disposed in the first to nth ring-shaped waveguides2041to204n. By controlling temperatures of these heaters, central wavelengths of the respective ring resonators2021to202nare controlled and the dispersion of an optical signal input to the waveguide203is compensated.
