ABSTRACT:
Disclosed is trisulfosuccinic acid and salts thereof described by the formula: ##EQU1## where one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 or R.sub.4 is hydrogen and the remainder are SO.sub.3 M; and where M may be the same or different cation selected from hydrogen or an alkali metal. These compounds may be prepared by aqueous liquid phase reaction of a dihalomaleic anhydride, alkali metal hydroxide and an alkali metal sulfite and are useful as detergent builders.
