ABSTRACT:
Tris(dialkylamino)sulfonium bifluoride salts are obtained by hydrolysis, methanolysis, or pyrolysis of corresponding tris(dialkylamino)sulfonium difluorotrimethylsilicates, reaction of dialkylaminotrialkylsilanes with sulfur tetrafluoride, or reaction of bis(dialkylamino)sulfur difluorides with dialkylamines. These bifluoride salts, which have the general formula (R.sup.1 R.sup.2 N)(R.sup.3 R.sup.4 N)(R.sup.5 R.sup.6 N)S.sup..sym. HF.sub.2.sup..crclbar., are useful polymerization catalysts.
