ABSTRACT:
In a transmission system or a recording systems often codes are used to make the coded signal (C.sub.k) DC free. To simplify the detector (16), block codes can be preferable. To exploit the redundancy inherently present in such a code a symbol wise Viterbi detector (24,26) is used to detect the symbols without largely enlarging the complexity of the system.
