ABSTRACT:
A charging member for being contactably disposed to an image bearing member and being supplied with a bias voltage includes a resistance layer having an ionic electrical conductivity. The resistance layer comprises a foamed elastic member and satisfies the following relationships:in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?B≦(5/3)×A−0.3, andin-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?B≧0.6,in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein A represents a surface bubble-containing density measured, in a state that air bubbles are attached to the surface of said resistance layer, by immersion method according to JIS Z 8807; and B represents a surface bubble-deaerated density measured, in a state that said air bubbles are removed from the surface of said resistance layer, by immersion method according to JIS Z 8807.
